Story Featured on 'Metal Britannia' - 05/03/10 |

On Friday the 5th March at 21:00 hrs, on BBC 4, the
Soundhouse Story, or at least a good part of it will be
told as part of a presentation called Heavy Metal
Britannia! I have been given the honour of opening the
show so they say and I would like all ex Soundhouse to
know that finally, their day of recognition has arrived!
I further understand that there will be very diverse
interviews, including one from Budgie, although, Iron
Maiden refused to take part!
It is a momentous occasion and only now can we realise
the import of all that was done in the name of fun and
Rock 'N Roll so very long ago, and the continuing effect
that our actions together at that time had and still do
have on the subsequent generations of bands and fans
and, indeed, even the industry to the present day.
The Soundhouse audience were the absolute cream of the
cream-the very best that any entertainer could have
asked for. Responsive, vibrant, incredibly knowledgeable
about their chosen music genre and, such fun to be
around that even the real stars loved to be in their
presence! of course, each and every one was a five star
committed drinker, lunatic and, as we had many of the
nation's greatest floor performers, it would be true to
say that there were no wallflowers present! Even the
press flocked to check out their increasingly outrageous
antics!
It is easy to say that "the rest is history", however,
in this case nothing could possibly be closer to the
truth. At 60 now, my memory still returns to to those
glorious Soundhouse Years and the diversity of people
whose presence, spirit and soul shall, for me always
remain uppermost in my thoughts!
Cheers to the Soundhouse!
Hope that you all enjoy the programme!

Ongoing Mission

>> It has now been
over 31
years
since I first walked
into the Bandwagon one Wednesday night in September 1975, to answer a call from the
stage in search of a Presenter of Rock. I confess that I had
absolutely no idea where treading that path would lead, or to the
incredibly colourful and diverse characters that would subsequently
surround me at all levels of my life in Rock 'n' Roll from both sides
of that stage!
It has taken me almost
until now, when life finds me in my late middle age, to realise and
understand fully just how important those far-off times have been to
all who grew up with, became a part of, or were touched by the
magical Soundhouse Years.
Together, we created a
real Tour de Force as far as the music industry was concerned, and
as the years went by, a real 'family of friends' was forged lasting
right up to current times. Indeed, in some cases, even leading to
marriage, family and beyond!
They were our
formative years in more ways than one, and, as I look across the
period that spans our life and times, our many achievements, the few
failures, the happy and sad parts, from the outrageous to the truly
crazy and totally insane, I do so with a fondness of memory for all
who took part, and, for one last time, the wish to do it all again
without the slightest change!!!
The Soundhouse Website
is a celebration of our lives together, and a lasting testimony of
what can be achieved by ordinary people who banded together in
difficult times, in order to fight for, and share in a passion for
the music that they all loved so very much, and the resulting way of
life that came from it! I welcome all of you to it and thank all who
helped create our 'little piece of history'.
